That was the story, of course, until Kubo decided to rewrite the
scenario in the final minute of the half with a magnificent strike, a
goal that will surely be one of the best of the year.
The ball swooped into the top right corner to restore parity,
silencing all but a small section of the near capacity crowd. And Kubo
celebrated like he hadn't in a very, very long time, making the crowd
forget about one Kazuyoshi Miura who remained firmly on the bench.
"I was hoping Kubo would surprise us, and he did," Takagi said.
But Reds, in the end, displayed the class of champions. Five minutes to the end of normal time, they reclaimed the advantage through a fine effort from forward Nagai. Just when Yokohama's first points in the first division seemed to be on the horizon, a failed clearance near the edge of the Yokohama box landed at the feet of Nagai.
7 J1 and 3 J2 matches are played on the sunny spring Saturday
afternoon. There was something interesting in the match of Urawa vs Yokohama FC.
The new promoted team presented their discipline and a unexpected goal,
but the defending champions didn't let a point away.
