KAWASAKI--Kawasaki Frontale became the first Japanese team to reach
the knockout round of the AFC Champions League when they cantered to a
3-0 win over Indonesia's Arema Malang at Todoroki Stadium on
Wednesday.

From 2002-03 the Asian Champions Cup and Asian Cup Winners Cup were
merged into one competition and was rebranded the AFC Champions
League. In Chamions Cup days, J.League clubs made success (e.g.
Jubilo Iwata continued to be the finalist for the 3rd consecutive
year from 1999 to 2001).
